No, Alex is just very prolific. He has a home studio and records everything there, but don't go thinking this is lo-fi four-track stuff. It's all quite shiny and clean. Also, he made and distributed his albums on the cheap for a while, using zine-like photocopy art and pro-quality CD-Rs. In 2006, Alex made the leap to the real world with Applewine, an actual honest-to-goodness compact disc for the (rock of) ages. 2008's Missing Briefcase follows the same hot standards.
- What's the deal with The Albatross?
The Albatross is the Colonel Tom Parker to Alex's Elvis Presley. He is the fluffy bird behind the curtain pulling the strings and stirring the Kool-Aid. Don't let his gruffly impressive wingspan distract you from the cajones beneath his pearly plumage. The Albatross is essentially the magic and the reason behind the entire Alex Arrowsmith cannon.
- Who is Alyssa?
Alyssa Perkins is the ultimate mastermind of alexarrowsmith.com and Alex's girlfriend. She was there at many of the Cafe Delirium open mics back in the day, so you can rest assured that she is a chief Alex Arrowsmith expert as well.
- What is with Alex and bears, sharks, facial hair, etc?
He just calls 'em as he sees 'em. And he sees an absurd amount of facial hair, bears and sharks. No, he is not a Mountie. No, he is not the Gorton's fisherman, nor Gorton himself.
- Who the heckfire is Mayhaw?
Mayhaw Hoons is another artist on Ectoplasmic Records. He is also the singer/songwriter of Mondo Hollywood and bassist of The Shaky Hands. He answers to no one, but he does answer the phone.
